Ever since I've been old enough to make my own decisions, I think I've made some pretty good ones and perhaps some not so pretty. I'm trying to keep this blog positive, so until I feel like bitchin about something, I'm just going to focus on the good stuff. My relationships are at the top of the list. With family, you don't get a choice. You're born into a family of parents, siblings, Uncles, Aunts, cousins, but friendships and choosing significant others, those are choices we make. And I've already mentioned on another blog what a great choice I made with the person I will spend the rest of my life with.
Just like choosing who to marry, I couldn't have made better choices in my friendships either. While in elementary school, I only had a couple of friends I was really close with. And when you're a kid, your best friend is the one who sits next to you in class, the one who shares her eraser with you, the one who hangs out with you just for fun. When you get older your needs are a bit different. I still want my best friend to share her eraser with me, but I also need a shoulder to lean on, and someone to listen to me when I'm having a bad day, and most of all I want this person to accept me for who I am and also to make me a better person without even trying. And for me to offer all this in return. Take my friend Alka. She and I have been best friends since our late teens. When we first met, it's funny now, but we didn't exactly hit it off. We were so different from one another. However, as we spent more time together, we realized we weren't that different from each other. Atleast not in the ways that mattered. We've been through some great times and some not so great times. But each time was important in where we are now. Without this relationship, life would've been much more difficult, and I might have become more nuts than I already am.
Anyways, having that friendship with her is one of the best choices I ever made. I have many other friends that I've kept in touch with over the years. Some I see once in a great while and some I see all the time. People move in different directions as life goes on and you don't always get to play with your friends in the playground like you used to. So you make the best of the times when you do get to play. All in all, I've made some good decisions to bring happiness into my life.

Love Handles, please go away!
Anyone out there ever been on a diet? Or an exercise program? Or both? The hardest part is the first few pounds and the last few pounds.
A few years ago I had decided to lose some weight because realized I was getting bigger and bigger and before I burst, I had to do something. So I exercised, 3 days a week, then 4 days, then 5. I was feelin' goooood. This was when Jarrod was popular, so I was exercising and was eating Jarrod's almost everyday. It took about 6 months and I lost about 15 pounds. I was feelin reeeaal good. Clothes fit better, food tasted better, music sounded better, and I was feeling grrreeat.
After losing a few more pounds, I was actually slim. I was at a point where I was done losing weight. Now the next tough part, maintaining. As hard as it is to lose the weight, its as easy to put it back on. That part sucked. I love to eat, esp Thai food, Indian food, wings, fries, and most of the other things that are bad for you. I didn't want to give up the foods that I loved. So I indulged, but in moderation. Its not easy, but I had to do it. So things were still good. What sucks is that you always have to maintain. You can't stop, because it will bite you in the large ass that will start growing behind you.
All in all, I've done ok the past few years. Until!!! Until I got married last year. Gone are the days when I could just eat cereal for dinner or have Jarrods every other night. Now I have to eat real meals, real big and heavy meals. Turns out, this person that I live with, my hubby, also loves to eat. And he's the kind of guy that he'll eat whatever he feels like and won't gain weight like us girls. I hate him for that. And he puts all this delicious, yummy stuff in front of me, almost on purpose to tempt me. And I cannot always resist. So here I am, a few pounds heavier now. I'm not complaining about being overweight or anything. Its just that when you work so hard to get to a certain point, you don't want that to go to waste.
I don't know what it is, but my routine of exercise and eating healthier, just isn't cutting it anymore. My love handles and abs are growing and I want it to stop. As long as I want to stay fit, this will be an endless cycle.

Thank Goodness
I type the words "mother-in-law" in google.com and pretty much all I see are links for mother-in-law (MIL) jokes, horrible experiences between wives and their MILs, stories of evil MILs, and mostly people just bitching about their husband's mothers. I was trying to find someone who could share something positive and a good experience. Because then atleast I could relate.
Seems I am one of the lucky few to actually like my mother-in-law. Infact so far, we have a great relationship. Even though things didn't exactly start off on the right foot, since the very day my husband and I got married last year, I couldn't ask for anything more from both my mother and father-in-law. I'll save the father-in-law discussion for another time. Right now, I'd like to focus on MILs, mostly mine.
I realize all of a sudden you have a new family member and you’re supposed to try and get along with them. And it’s easy to judge someone when you don’t know them and don’t take the time. I don't know my mother-in-law that well yet, we've only started talking less than a year ago. She lives half way across the world so I don't see her much, but thanks to advances in technology, there are many ways to reach out to her. We talk on the phone regularly and even email occasionally. We keep each other apprised of things that are happening in our lives, we exchange recipes, she tells me cute lil' stories about my husband when he was a kid. She's trying to relate to me and is doing her part. I wish she lived closer, or atleast in the same country so I could see her more often and get to know the lady who brought the love of my life into this world. If nothing else, she's awesome just for that. As I get to know her more, I see qualities in her that amaze me because I still do remember the first time we met and how things started off. She is actually quite goofy, very down to earth, easy going, and makes me feel comfortable when we talk. With time, everything usually gets easier, but everything does not always get better. It has for me. There is work involved in every relationship. As her daughter-in-law, I will do my best to do my part. And I look forward to spending more time with her and continue the path we're on.
I wish to share my experience with others because I feel it’s needed. Its too bad that so many people are missing out on something that brings so much joy. One even says the word mother-in-law and some of the words that come to people's minds are words I care not to share here. But for me, it’s nothing like that. I have only words of kindness. I don't know what happened or why me? But thank goodness.

Waking up on the wrong side...
It's been one of those days!
No matter if you're going to school or work or whatever, its hard to wake up early in the morning. Especially on a cold wintery day in the midwest. You just want to stay under your covers and stay in there for as long as you can. I don't know about most people, but for me, yes its hard to get up, but once I'm up, I'm really up and ready for the day. I think I'm a morning person, and an afternoon person, and evening, and pretty much all day. Ofcourse we all have those days, when we feel like we've woken up on the wrong side of the bed. I think for me, today is one of those days.
I just woke up with something nagging me. I don't even know what. Well, I kind of do, but still. I don't like to let things linger in my head. Usually I'm a positive person and don't want little things clouding my head. I didn't used to be this way, but I see things much differently now than I did when I was younger. Anyways, blasting some music on the drive to work helps for a few minutes. And usually once the day gets going, things tend to get better. For me, so far it hasn't. It's probably not the best time to blog when I'm in this mood.
Anyways, since these are just my random thoughts, I thought I'd share. With whom? I have no idea. Even if no one is listening, I just felt like sharing. Sharing is caring...wait, what was I talking about? Oh yes, getting up on the wrong side of the bed. Can we really say its the wrong side of the bed, when really, there is no wrong side. Its either one side or the other. Who's to say one is right and the other is wrong? I guess its the same guy who woke up feeling like crap one day and didn't know who to blame, so he or she made up this excuse.

Worth The Wait...
It'll happen. You'll meet the right guy. Whatever's meant to be will happen. I had heard these lines a gazillion times. I even said them to myself. And although deep down inside, I truly believed it, I still wondered at times if I was kidding myself.
I got married this past summer. I'm thirty-something right now. Before I met my husband, I'll have to say that I was happy with my life, but still, like most people, I wanted to find the guy I was meant to be with. I had tried it all. My family and friends had tried to set me up. Oh, how I just loved those blind dates. I went to social functions, networking events, speed dating (now that was torture). I had online profiles setup on just about every dating site out there . Heck I was so desperate once, I tried creating my own dating website just to see if I could meet someone. Well, ok, that wasn't the goal for my site, but it would've been a nice perk. I cannot count the number of guys I actually met or talked to in person or in cyberspace. Sure there were some really nice guys out there and then there were some that if given the choice, I would rather have spent that time listening to nails on a chalkboard.
The person I ended up marrying, I didn't meet at any of these places. I met him at work. The amazing thing is that I worked at this place for about 6 months and then was let go. In my heart I believe I got that job for one reason alone. To find him.
Looking back at all the experiences, I can say that it really taught me a lot of who I wanted to be with and who I didn't want to be with. If I hadn't met a lot of those guys, I don't think I would've truly appreciated the person I'm with now. He isn't someone I thought I would be with due to my own closed mindedness. But I heard something once that makes so much sense now. The reason we cannot find the Right guy is that we keep looking for the same Wrong guy. I'm very lucky my husband came into my life. He is everything that I could ever ask for and definitely worth the wait. For all those fairy tale stories you hear about, I'm living proof that it does exist. I found my prince and he is as charming as can be.

The Joys of Aunt-Hood
There are joys of motherhood and joys of fatherhood. There are so many joys that kids bring into this world. What I know best are the Joys of AuntHood. And oh how much joy there is.
I don't have kids of my own, but I feel like I do. I have so many nieces and nephews, ranging from 6 months old to teenagers. And each and every one of them have at one time in my life made me think, "WOW, how lucky am I to be their Aunt". Being an aunt to me is one of the best things about my life. Its the best job there is. I get to play with my kiddies whenever I want. I can take them out to the movies, buy them a happy meal, take them to the park and watch them run all over the place. I can be in the pool with them while they jump in and splash me with their giggles. I can feed their faces with mac and cheese, or read them their favorite bedtime stories. I even change their diapers if necessary. I call it bonding time. All this, and I still get to go home and have a good night's rest without being woken up by a crying little one. How sweet is that?
Any given day that I visit them, the kids will run up to me as if they haven't seen me in years. In their world, one week probably seems like one year. They love me with no strings attached. And thats the best part. So innocent and so amazingly beautiful. They have no idea, the smile that I bring to their faces is no match to the smile they bring to my heart.

Pass the chutney please
Have you ever cooked for someone, slaved for hours and hours in the kitchen, put your heart and soul into making something special, only to have the person you cooked for, add in their own concoction and then it totally not taste what you meant for them to taste? Aaarrrggghhh, that would be so annoying.
Here's the thing though - I'm the number one guilty party of doing this myself.
I got to a restaurant or someone's house and no matter what I'm about to eat, as soon as it comes to the table, I reach for the peppers or chutney or salt or any other spice in reach. I just know before I even try it that I will need to add my own flavors. I grew up eating spicy food with lots and lots of flavor. If I eat spaghetti, there is NO way I'm eating it the way its meant to be eaten. That would be too bland and without atleast some spice, what's the point? Pass me the peppers, the tabasco, the chutney. Anything you can find. Please.
This never bothered me until it happened to me when I cooked for someone and they didn't even try the dish before they topped it off with their own crap. I could surely understand even though I didn't like it. And it doesn't change the way I do things either, but atleast I do think about it...for a second, before I say "Pass the chutney please?

What I do on my day job versus what I'd rather be doing
Am I the only person out there who is sitting at his/her desk at work right now wondering "there's got to be more to life than this".
I decided to share with everyone, or whoever actually stumbles upon this blog site, some random thoughts that enter my tiny little brain. I realize I am very fortunate to have a job in these times. But what I do from 9-5 everyday does not fulfill my desires, does not keep me pumped up during the day, and it certainly does not give me something to look forward to every night. I know, I know. "Stop your whining and do something about it then". I've heard that more than enough. I say it to myself all the time.
Over the years, I have actually tried my hand at various things, but they didn't exactly work out as planned. So here I am, back at my desk. Because at the end of the day, I still had bills to pay.
Ofcourse I'd rather be doing something else, like mixing some music on my DJ Mixer prepping for a big event. Now that would be cool. I almost became a music DJ once. Well, "almost became" is a bit overstated. Let's see, I bought a DJ Mixer, popped in some CDs and started to play around with different beats and sounds and entertained only myself. My friends even gave me a name for my new career. DJ Clueless. Cause I had no idea what I was doing. So after a couple of weeks of playing around, I decided maybe it wasn't for me. I really wanted to become a DJ and so many other things that didn't pan out. Problem is, I think more than I actually do. But thats ok, like they say, a girl can dream. And I will keep dreaming and wondering.
